Did you know that the lowest string of bass guitar  has a frequency

of approx. 40 Hz and can be heard only from a distance of 8m ?

why ? when someone plays the bass guitar that we can hear it?

Because the string generates next to the main frequency, harmonics also, or multiples of 40Hz frequency.

For this reason, we hear the sound of the string in spite of that we are at a distance of less than 8m. Also because the man is able to locate the source of the sound, though, that low frequencies are for us not possible for determine directionality.

If you generate a low frequency using a generator, you will be hear it only from a distance equal to the wavelength.
